KAPCHORWA – Imams have been urged to sensitise Muslims to adhere to religious laws to eradicate HIV/AIDS. The district health officer, Dr. Rogers Masaba, made the call while opening the Islamic Medical Association of Uganda (IMAU) workshop for Kapchorwa and Bukwo district Imams at the district Farmers’ Hall recently. Masaba reminded the Imams that they were supposed to disseminate HIV/AIDS messages to Muslims. “You have a big following and when you talk to your people they listen because they recognise you as their spiritual leaders” Masaba said. The IMAU secretary, Yousuf Twalla, said the workshop was meant to build the capacity of Imams to use the Islamic approach in addressing HIV/AIDS problems within their communities.
